The Young Audio Awards, the “Oscars” of radio and audio for under 18s, celebrate amazing young talent across the UK has seen hundreds of kids and schools get involved this year, and the nominees are in.

Announced live on the Fun Kids Breakfast Show, those up for the gongs come from all across the country including Glasgow, Torbay and The Isle of Wight.

The 4Ps Training School and Vectis Radio has been nominated for the ‘Achievement Within The Community Award’.

Ian Mac said; “This is Amazing, so proud of the youngsters involved and am hoping that we now get the proper funding and support we need to help more disadvantaged young people using the main ingredients in radio boosting their confidence and communication”.

4ps Trustee Maggie Currie said: It is amazing to watch the young people grow in confidence as they get to grips with presenting and producing their own radio shows.  From nervous wrecks, sometimes unable to speak with fear, to professional co-hosts researching various topics and presenting their findings live on air. It makes me very proud of their achievements.

Vectis Radio Director Kelvin Currie  said Being nominated for this award really underlines the hard work put in by the whole team here at Vectis Radio. Without the radio station and the small but dedicated band of volunteers that keep it going, there would be no place to run the 4Ps courses. Without the support of the isle of Wight Council who have supported the courses from their inception, they wouldn’t have flourished as they have. This nomination is a huge thank you to all those people and to my fellow director Ian Mac who’s vision and drive has propelled Vectis Radio and the 4Ps from a dream to the reality it now is. Good luck to all the nominees.

IW councillor and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Education Paul Brading said “My first experience with the 4P’s programme was nearly 3 years ago when I  took on the IW Council Cabinet responsibility for Childrens Services and Education.  I was totally impressed then, and still am, with the way Ian Mac engages and interacts with the Young People on the programme, and the sheer enjoyment, pride, and satisfaction of achievement on their faces. I visit regular and have seen incredible development of the students personalities and confidence to communicate, as well as the quality of their programmes, they have also given me some tough questions from them live on Air. I am now proud to be the Patron of the 4P’s programme, to help them achieve even greater success in the future”

Those nominated have the chance to win some pretty cool prizes including: a show on national radio, mentorship with big radio presenters and even a new radio studio for a lucky school.
